Quotes that don't include VAT and don't say so

A few times now I've asked for quotes for jobs and discovered later that the cheapest haven't included VAT ....why do they do that? - shouldn't the default be to always quote including VAT and say so ?
Who doesn't have to pay VAT on domestic jobs?

If they are VAT registered then they should include VAT in any quotes they give.

Sally some companies are VAT registered and some are not, the ones who are not cannot add the VAT on, the ones who are have to add it on.
  • ask for their VAT number and ring the tax office, they will tell you if they are ....... if they can't give one..... don't use them.

NBJT, I'm sorry, I don't understand your logic. Why shouldn't you use someone just because they're not VAT registered?

Exactly, he's talking out of his bulls.:D

It's quite easy for the smaller trades to do a perfect job and keep under the £81,000 turnover.

I think he means that if someone says they are registered for VAT but won't let the customer have their vat reg number to check with HMRC then don't use them.

Don't think he means don't to use anyone who isn't vat registered... I think....:D
