Afternoon everyone,

I'm off to Krakow in a few weeks for four days. I've got myself an apartment for the four days and I've planned to do the following -

1.Main Market Square (Rynek Glowny) - Centre of Old Town, Krakow, Poland (Stare Miasto)

Around 20 miles from Krakow.

3. Plaszow Concentration Camp - ul. Jerozolimska | Nearest Tram stop - Dworcowa, Krakow, Poland (Kleparz)

4. Krakow’s Historic Centre - Krakow, Poland (Kleparz)

5. Oskar Schindler's Factory - ul. Lipowa 4, Krakow, Poland

6. Jewish District (Kazimierz) - Szeroka 24, Krakow 30-527, Poland

7. Krakow Zoo (Ogrod Zoologiczny) - ul. Kasy OszczednoSci Miasta Krakowa 14, Krakow 30-232, Poland

7. The Planty Park - Krakow, Poland (Kleparz)

8. Gestapo Headquarters - ul. Pomorska 2, Krakow 30-039, Poland

The majority of these activities come with a small charge and all but Auschwitz are in Krakow. I'll need to go to a supermarket to get my food for the four days.

How much would everyone suggest?

We went to Krakow and was amazed how cheap it was to eat out.
You will be surprised how far your money will go.
    Loved the Jewish Quarter.

You can walk to most of those places and don't need a tour.

Auschwitz is a bout 40 miles not 20, and can be done via a bus from opposite the huge shopping centre, or a train to Oswiciem.

In terms of cost, prices are about 2/3 of the UK for restaurants, 1/2 that for alcohol and 1/3 that for transport.

I did 3 nights in Krakow a month ago. I withdrew 1000 zloty (about £200) at the airport and I ended up bringing about 400 zloty back and that was after a spending splurge at the airport duty free and with no skimping on food and drink at all. Things were so cheap that I really couldn't spend the money.

I really wouldn't bother with supermarkets for food as restaurants are such good value.

Krakow is a great city. The centre is really compact and well laid out. You really cannot get lost.

Wawel castle is worth a look as well and there is a salt mine somewhere oin the outskirts which is supposed to be really good - although we got there and it was closed so missed it. Not sure what is special about the zoo, maybe leave that out?

as someone else said Auschwitz is a lot more than 20mi away and is pretty much a whole day activity

The salt mine is definitely worth visiting, it's huge and incredibly detailed sculpture, a city user ground really. It's also a lot closer than auschwitz, probably a 30 minute bus ride for the city centre.

I stayed in Krakow in Feb for 2 nights and yes, its cheap! And the beers so nice and I don't even drink beer!!!! Loved walking around the City Centre and Jewish Quarter. Only disappointment was the weather, too mild for February, more so the the UK! Hoping to get back out there later in the year and still so much I want to see and do, just need someone to look after our 5 year old again.

We used this company for the Auschwitz tour. Highly recommend - http://www.discovercracow.eu/tours/index

We were picked up and dropped off at the hotel and had a guide and transfer between the 2 camps. Absolutely brilliant service and very knowledgeable guide. It is cheaper to DIY and that's what i'd usually do however proved to be very good value.

Favourite restaurant was a local pizzeria (we stayed the the Hilton 5 min walk away and breakfast was included) the 45cm was more than enough for the 2 of us and only cost £5-£6. it was very popular and we had to wait but it was worth it!

Including the tour, eats, gifts and duty free Vodka we still came home with change from £120.
