How much are you paying in advance?

Was just wondering what percentage of the wedding day bill are you paying in advance of the actual day?
We have signed a contract to say we will pay 95% of the estimated bill 2 weeks prior to the wedding but as apparently our contract is 'null & void' as our venue has gone into administration I am not comfortable about paying this much when in the interim things might go pear shaped & we might end up spending nearly all of our budget then potentially have to pay for another day somewhere else, that's if we can find one available at all of course.
When I said this to the administrators he said although the contract is not enforceable if we don't pay the money the Hotel will not be able to host our day so they have us over a barrel really.
Is 95% prior to the day the norm?

Not sure what is the norm but we have paid £500 deposit, £1000 mid payment and the rest is to be paid a month before the big day.Married 30/08/14 :heartpuls0

No idea what is normal.
We're getting married on 26th July and I know we have to return our contract with all the definite numbers by 31st May which is 8 weeks before. We have already paid £500 deposit and I was under the impression we paid 90% at the time the contract is confirmed.
These are what the t&c's of our contract say:
A deposit of £500.00 is required within 14 days to secure a provisional
booking. This deposit will not be refunded under any circumstances.
ii. No less than 21 days prior to the Event, 90% of the total estimated bill must be paid.
So I think somewhere between 8-3 weeks before the day we pay the majority. I'm not liking how June/July is looking for our bank account!
iii. The remaining 10% for final sundries must be paid within 14 days of receipt of the final invoice.0 -
Like many of the others I've no idea what is normal - however to our reception venue we've paid 50% deposit already, and have been asked for the rest of the balance (including catering payment) on the day. I actually negotiated so we could pay it a few days before, as I don't want to have to deal with it on the day!
Photographer we've paid a 20% deposit, the rest due on the day - again, I'll pay that one early! But as it's all done through bank transfer it's easy peasy.
Church I imagine will be pay whenever, 'cause it's our usual church so everything is being pretty casual - everything else is bought so will be paid for in advance.Officially saved enough to cover the cost of our wedding! :A0 -
We paid 25% on booking, another 50% 1 week before and the balance plus any other additions within 14 days of receipt of the invoice, which gave us chance to check and rectify a couple of inaccuracies. This was with a Barcelo (now Puma) hotel so an international chain.
We also paid each payment on credit card & cleared that from our savings when the bills came in, so it wasn't all from our bank account in one lump!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Our deposit was £250, then we need to pay:
20% 6 months before
30% 3 months before
30% 1 months before
20% 2 weeks before
Bit odd, but if I've got the cash, i'll either pay them off at 3 months or 1 month before the wedding!:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
Hiya, we get married in jan and so,far we have paid 300 deposit to hotel. 150 to photographer, 30 to dj and 50 to registry office. Dj and photographer want final payments on the day and the hotel have said we can pay it in bits or in full upto 4 weeks before so I think we will be paying it all off monthly. Made sure we had a good insurance deal tho

Ours is £200 deposit for reception venue, balance on the day.
Photographer is £125 deposit with a further £125 30 days prior and balance no later than 14 days after the wedding (although we will pay him quicker, as the sooner we do, the quicker we will have the photos).
No idea about the church yet, we know its £500 and have the funds to pay whenever we're asked for it.
Wedding is July 2015.0 -
If the venue has gone into administration I wouldn't pay them a bean - if push comes to shove and they go completely under you will one in a long line of creditors waiting for a nominal pence in the pound payment. I would look elsewhere x0
