Hi,
I switched on my laptop and put in my password and this message came up.
The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
Any ideas on what to do. Thanks.

failed the logon or failed to start
wait a few minutes, if it doesn't start, reboot
backup http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx!!

Boat loads of information here. I'd give closed's suggestion a try first and give it a few minutes before trying to enter your password.0

Cheers tried waiting but it just wont let me log on. How do I reboot is there a button somewhere?"Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0

No, no magic button. If it still won't load then you'l need to follow one of the 3 methods offered in the link above to recover your data.
To reboot you hold the power button down to shut down, then restart as normal. Don't pull the wall plug.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Why not just start the computer in safe mode and let it fix itself?0

You're all very kind giving me help. I'm afraid I know very little about computers and when something goes wrong I'm stuck. I will try your advice next macman. Unfortunately I have no idea how to start the laptop in safe mode. I cant get further than trying to log on."Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0

safe mode is accessed by switching on and holding F8 at boot
another (more drastic) option is backup data and factory restore, instructions in the speedup sticky thread!!

I've had to do what poppellerant has linked to (method 1) on 2 laptops. If you google the error message we are not alone.0

I'm typing this on my laptop so a huge thanks to everyone! Now how did this happen not entirely sure. I powered off then on found safe mode tried system restore data went streaming past then stopped. Waited ages nothing so powered off pc then offered to repair so I took it up on that. More data streaming past most of which it deleted because it was corrupted. Then BOOM up came my log on and it was back to normal, and breathe...."Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0

OP, your best bet might be to use Macrium and completely backup your drive then restore it.0
