how long did your cat take to use catflap ?

hey everyone - hope your all well.
I installed (or my dad did) a catflap about a week ago and my cat seems to be struggling with opening it herself.
it's a microchip catflap & she's not bothered by the noise of the catch. I have had the door taped open so she could get used to going in & out and she took to that straight away
so far though I can't get her to open the flap herself. I've used toys & food to try & tempt her and almost had success.
how long did your cat take work it out?
thanks

One of mine was literally pushed through it for two weeks before he got the hang of it properly -even now he'd rather walk past it scramble up a wall and come in through a window if he has the choice. The other cats had no issues at all with it.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I tried 'forcing' her through but she put he rear legs on either side of the flap and freaked out lol
I decided not to do that again as I don't want her to fear it lol0 -
Mine got it in a couple of days. She is quite lazy though and often gets the kids to help her!0

All of mine have taken a few weeks to get used to it - even still my Gingy doesn't push through, instead, he uses his paws to lift the flap open and dives through... Very odd... My maine coon cross would rather sit and meow at everyone who gets up until they open the door to let him out but will happily use the flap to come in...
Just be patient with your kitty - she'll get there in the end!!:j Married to the Love of my Life 02.08.2014 - Now I'm Mrs E :j

I agree, just be patient. Especially if your cats are older - my oldest only goes through it if he's in the mood to go through it.
Our [STRIKE]is[/STRIKE] was a microchip one too until fatty just barged his way through and broke it

Ah...BusterCatflap - We've got one of those.:D0 -
It all depends on the cat I think. We have 3 kitties, being of, erm, varying degrees of intelligence.
The dimmest (bless her, she's lovely but not the brightest spark) took a few weeks and even now is unsure about using it, and needs to bat it for a full 3 minutes every single bloomin' time she uses it to check it's open.
The middling brightest took a couple of days. She's a tortie, obsessed about hubby, so we simply put him & her on opposite sides of the cat flap & she soon got the idea.
The brightest one took a morning! We brought him home, he had a little tour of the house, & quick kip on the nearest cat tree, popped out through the cat flap, had a wander around on the patio & then came back in for some lunch. Harvey, the wonder cat

Erm, well one of mine who was at the back of the queue for brain cells still won't use the cat flap after nearly 11 years........hmm!
She has, however, trained us to open the patio door for her when she wants to go out/come in by scraping her claws down the glass - you just can't ignore it!
On second thoughts, maybe she wasn't at the back of the queue for brain cells! What goes around comes around.....I hope!0 -
I fitted mine in the back door and sat back to admire my handiwork. The cat came over see what I'd been up to, stared intently at the catflap for a few seconds and then went out through it into the garden.
I didn't even have to show him the instruction leaflet.0
