Tax credits and returning to work

My husband and I claim child tax and working tax credits. My husband is self employed and I have just been offered a part time position of 16 hours a week starting on the 7th April.
I will need to use childminders during the school holidays only and from reading on the internet 70% of this cost may be covered.
So i will need cover for approx 13 weeks a year for my 2 children.
When i'm trying to work out fiugures using entitled2 this is saying tax credits will pay me an average over the weeks, but a friend states if its just holiday childcare then i need to ring them 7 days before and inform them i will be using childcare.
What i need to know is which is right, and if they do pay you just for holidays do they pay in in a lump sum in time to cover the childcare ?
Many thanks
