Am I missing something?

I cant believe I am asking this but............is my OH being illogical? we are having a bit of a disagreement here and I would like your opinions.
OH was upset Friday about the size of the gas bill - the leccy one is no different to normal but the gas one was much higher than usual.
his solution (and this is where I think he is coming from The Twilight Zone), is to take out the Electric fire and get a woodburner instead.
Now what am I missing here? can anyone explain his logic because he just insists that he is right!

I think he's looking for an excuse to get a woodburner!
Edit: how often do you use the electric fire? If it's rarely used and you'd cut down on the gas central heating if there were a woodburner it may be worth a try- check ebay for local listings though as my SIL got her for £100 ish rather than £600.They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

Can a woodburner be set up to heat the water for the rads?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Did you point out to him that the leccy fire runs off leccy, and not the gas ? And therefore does not affect the size of the gas bill ? Just to make sure that he got this part ?
Alternatively - and I admit, I am scratching the barrel now - do you have gas central heating that is used a lot, and the leccy fire is not used much cos it is considered to cost a lot ? In which case, he might be thinking that installing a woodburner would make you use that instead of the heating, and therefore keep the gas bill down ?
If it's not the heating that's the culprit, but cooking on a gas hob, perhaps making something like this would help: http://mortgagefreeinthree.com/2014/03/its-done-your-thermal-cooking-bag-tutorial/. But if that's the case, then taking out the leccy fire is unlikely to have the desired result.....0 -
What was his response to you asking 'How will removing an electric appliance impact positively on reducing our gas bill darling?'......The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. Oh yes Allegra - I tried pointing that out but it made no impression.
I actually think its the new gas cooker. I am going to ask my gas engineer friend to give it a quick check. its got a triple A rating but my old cooker (faulty thermostat was reason for getting rid) never used this amount of gas! still don't see how getting the woodburner will help - I cant cook in/on that and have you seen the price of wood these days??????????0 -
he didn't say, but I rather got the impression he thinks you can cook on it, or in it.:rotfl:
We've got a woodburner which we can cook on but it wasn't cheap - https://www.clearviewstoves.com/stove-details/pioneer-oven - you'd get a lot of gas for the price of a new woodburner!0 -
I just googled it and apparently you can use a boiler stove, rather than a regular wood-burning one, to heat radiators throughout your home. These are very similar to any other stove except that it includes a back-boiler.
When the stove is lit it not only heats the room but the boiler, too. You can plumb the stove into your heating system to provide hot water and heat your radiators. Whether the savings you will make justifies the high installation costs is another matter. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses.
