Egg boiler -- what's the egg-shaped hole on the side?!

I've just bought this electric egg cooker:

As you can see from the photo, it has an egg-shaped dome on the side. I've read the instructions and had the device for a few weeks now, and I still can't figure it out! What on earth is it for?!

Any ideas? I'm stumped!

I have one similar and that's where my handle is. I love mine it is so handy.

It's just the right size to put an egg in... but there's no channel for steam to heat it. And why just one egg?! It's doing my head in! It really looks like you should be able to do something with it.

Maybe it is just a... very weird handle.

Maybe it is a handle - as surely the 'boiler' part would get hot and they've made it egg shaped 'for fun'.
