Failed Claim

2 years ago I tried to reclaim PPI on my Barclaycard. I did not remember buying PPI. Barclaycard wrote back to say I could not reclaim as they believed I would have been informed. Due to personal problems at the time I didn't do anything else. Is it too late to do anything now and if not what can I do?

You get 6 months from the rejection of your complaint to refer it to the FOS. You are 18 months too late.

The FOS will waive the time bar if there is significant justification for why you did not refer the case to them during the whole 2 year period you waited. They are strict on this though. It tends to be things like incapacity, immediate family member death etc. And it has to be for the whole period. Not just the first 6 months.

Leaving aside the fact that you are too late to refer your complaint to the Ombudsman, credit card PPI appears on every monthly statement on a separate line. This makes it very difficult to complain that you didn't know about it.
