hi everybody, i could do with some help, i recently noticed a direct debit on my bank account which i didnt know what it was for, i made enquires and found out it was a service contract for a washing machine id sold before i moved 4 years earlier, i remember cancelling it, and a conversation on the phone about why i shouldnt cancel but i did cancel. i got intouch with currys they cancelled my direct debit, but said i would have to contact their service people in regard off any refund, after many emails they said i am not entitled to a refund,. in the 4 years i have had no contact from them regarding the contract. they say it is totally my responsibility and nothing to do with them, is this the case does any one know, ive paid £20 a month for the last 4 years for nothing. can i do any more?

Big misunderstanding here. DSG cannot cancel your DD-only your bank can do that, on your instruction. All DSG can do is stop calling on it, but until you cancel it remains in place and potentially active.
When did you last check your bank statements?
Any refund would need to be sought through the insurance provider, presumably D&G. However if DSG deny that you ever cancelled it, (?) then you've got little to support your case-and the fact that you didn't notice for 48 months doesn't really help.
But how can the warranty on a washing machine (cost £4-500) be as much as £240 a year.? 10% would be more typical. That would have bought you a new machine every other year, and the first year (at least) would be covered under the manufacturer's warranty anyway. No free lunch, and no free laptop
