If I am understanding the OP correctly they are complaining that they dont get extra days for bank holidays - am I correct?
If the bank holiday falls on the days you are not working then why should you get another day off? You have already had the bank holiday off.
I think I know where you are coming from as if a bank holiday - ie Christmas and Boxing Day fall on a weekend then it is traditional to have the Monday and Tuesday afterwards as bank holiday.
This is a thing with part time or shift workers. If the holiday falls on a day you are not working then it is deemed that you have already had that day off.Mags - who loves shopping0 -
The way I explain it to my part-timers is that if they don't work Mondays, they get more choice about when to take their leave.
I have one person who's just started a short-term contract working Mondays and Wednesdays. There are three BH Mondays falling within his contract, so he has only a couple of hours free to take when he wants, unless he swaps his days in those weeks.
OP, if there's an HR dept, ask them to explain it.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
You may not like it, but that's the way it works. The part-timers are entitled to the same no. of days / hours leave pro rata. If they normally work on a Monday, they have to take the BH Mondays as leave, so their choice is reduced. If they don't normally work BHs, they get more choice about when to take leave. If I am understanding the OP correctly they are complaining that they dont get extra days for bank holidays - am I correct?

Not really, as they're not paid for the Mondays they don't usually work, so it's not strictly 'a day off'.
Would you say that someone (call them A) who works full-time, Tuesday to Saturday, shouldn't be given extra days off to make up for bank holidays? Just because they don't happen to work that day?
That would mean that any of their colleagues, who have a different working pattern, only have to work 4 days every time there's a bank holiday Monday. Whilst A has to work 5 days every time. That doesn't sound fair to me!
Surely they're entitled to extra days off to make up for the bank holidays?
Equally, someone who works part-time is entitled to extra time off on a bank holiday week, just like everyone else, regardless of their working pattern.2022. 2% MF challenge. £730/30000 -

Deemed by who? Please do share the source of your wisdom.
I love this board sometimes - it's full of 'absolutes' posted by people who actually don't know and are just spouting opinion but calling it fact... There is a very real difference between them.

Hi!
Many thanks for your replies. A bit overwhelmed for your information.
In my company there are people who are working from M to F, and the week with BH they are working 4 days, however in my case is not like that. One of you put this as an example.
Anyway I attach part of my contract.

as before 70hr over 4 weeks 5 days a week is 3.5hr a day
25 days
88/25 is 3.52hr per day which fits the average daily hours
(rounded up from 87.5 == 25*3.5)
28/8 is 3.5 which also fits
you manager needs pointing to the contract that is clear you earn 28 holiday hours from your prorata BH entitlement so they need to allocate/let you take that holiday from your normal shifts.0
