Child benefit/pension protection

Hi,
I'm being made redundant on the 31st March and from reading on here I gather because I get child benefit for my 2 year old I'll have my state pension contributions covered. Can anyone tell me if this is automatic or if I need to contact anyone or fill in a form or something? Never claimed any benefits other than child benefit and no idea where to start with things, I think we might be entitled to child tax credit too based on projected income for this year, but not sure how to find out or if we can apply as last year we both worked full time but this tax year our income is going to be dramatically different as I can't really get another job right now as I'm expecting again (due end of august but consultant expects it to be a late may/june arrival in reality, I don't do pregnancy all that well!) so it's probably going to be late this year or early next year before I start looking again when maternity allowance ends.
Thanks for reading

From the minute you get Child Benefit, it will be recorded

It used to be automatic, and I fairly sure that it still is, but you can check on gov.uk - a very useful site for all this stuff.
I do hope all goes well and that you are able to take it easy.0 -
yjr trcipient of child benefit automatically receives a NI credit until the youngest child is 12.
OP, how much is your partners income?
any tax credit award will initially be based on the previous years income and so you will receive a 'nil' award. you then phone them and give them an estimate of your 14/15 joint income and they will re calculate and issue another award letter
