receipt with posted goods

Options
Hello,

I am in the process of setting up a company to hopefully sell my Grandads WW2 memoirs as a book.

I was wondering if we have to provide a paper receipt in with the book when it is sent out. We will be accepting payment via a website with paypal. I know paypal sends out e-mail receipts and such but is there anything saying we have to send one out with the goods as well? We will be including a compliments slip which will be in with the book saying thanks for the payment. But it wont be tailored to each customer.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Nope, as long as a receipt is issued then it does not matter. Some companies just put a packing note in the actually parcel.

No need to include a paper receipt, if they pay with PayPal, the buyer will automatically receive an electronic receipt. A tip worth using, this also saves paper is printing on the line above the address "electronic receipts are issues"

  • I think if your business reaches a size where you're paying (and charging) VAT, you'd need to ensure you send a receipt that includes a VAT breakdown, I'm not sure if Paypal does that. But it sounds like your business will be smaller than that so the Paypal receipt should be just fine :)

If you arent registered for VAT then there is no legal requirement to provide receipts.

If you are registered for VAT you are legally required to provide a VAT receipt

You do need to ensure that somewhere in the process the customer is being told who the legal entity is that they are transacting business is.

    Books are zero rate VAT.
So I am not sure if that will change if we need to do a VAT receipt. But I was under the impression that I only need to do a VAT receipt if some one asks for one.

As with some shops you have to ask for a VAT receipt if its needed.

Yes, only a VAT receipt can be demanded and then that is only if you are VAT registered. If you are only selling a 0% VAT product you probably will want to be so you can recover the VAT from your supplies
  • Agree with the above post.

File for voluntary vat registration to reclaim vat on all supplies. You don't need to hit the turnover threshold to do so.
