I emailed the advertising department who passed on the query to a guy named Lloyd. He has just replied with the following:


Thanks for getting in touch. Our apologies for the error on the competition entry form. We've had one or two of these now so I will have our web team look into it. From what I can gather the limitations are put in place to protect us from being inundated with spam entries but it's causing things like this to happen occasionally.

Basically the form limits you to one entry per IP address, which I believe is linked to your device (I presume you're trying to enter via a PC or Mac but it could be a smartphone or tablet). So if someone else has already entered on that device it won't let you enter as well, even if it's with a separate name and email. This should be different for every competition but what I worry may have happened is that it is dragging over from previous competition entry forms as the last person that I spoke to about this said they had entered another one of our competitions but not this one, but they were still unable to enter. Why that would happen is beyond my knowledge of building websites so I will speak to our web team about this and see if we can solve the problem.

As a temporary workaround I would suggest, if you can, to try to enter from another device. Either a different computer or a smartphone or tablet. That way you can be sure to enter this month, and in the meantime our web team can hopefully solve this problem.



Now - I've just tried entering on my phone, not using my Wifi so it should be unconnected to my IP address - but still had the same error message So don't know what to try next!!!

Hi again

I've spoken with our web team who advised me to change the setting on the form to limit it to one entry per cookie, rather than per IP address. The cookies should expire after a certain time so that you hopefully can enter again now. But if not you should be able to just delete your internet cookies and enter.
