Right. Managed to get past the password problem but now it wont let me drag and drop the files from my documents to the file called mac on my Mac to then be shared with the PC.

Did you remember to give it read and write permissions in Windows?

ETA: Also the guy in the video set it up as 'Guest' access, and he didn't seem to need a password, so that might be your problem?
Although the Mac should prompt for a username and password if required, which would be your Windows ones, presuming you have set up the 'mac' folder on your Windows machine (like in the video).

I have Windows Vista and it does not give the read and write options. It gives an option of Reader or Contributor or co-owner. So I set it as reader?
I went in on Guest access and it let me in like that but when I reached the bit where I drag and drop the files into the mac folder on Mac it then asked for my Mac sign in ( which I did) but it would not go further.

Well 'reader' wouldn't give you write access, which you would need to transfer files to it.
I would suggest trying 'contributor' or 'co-owner'.
(For the record, I've never used Vista, in case securityguy comes in again :D)

Are you sure it's your Mac sign in it's asking for? It might be wanting your Windows username and password?
No harm in trying it anyway.

I have a 500GB Iomega USB external drive.

I had it in Mac format for years, and backed up my PCs across the network to it through a MacMini. Decided to reformat it for NTFS, and plug it into a PC instead.

iCalendar backup files won't copy, because the default name contains a date using forward slash, "/" , which clashes with Windows directory separator. Unix/Mac use "\". Some files will not copy due to some kind of attribute problem.

All things considered, I am probably going to use DVDs and flash drives to back up the MacMini, keeping Mac and PC backups separate.
