Three 3G connection 'restricted'

I have a Three Sim with all you can eat data, I have been using this in my iPhone 5S to get a feel for the network to see what it's like in terms of speed of internet and network coverage.

I have noticed that around 5:30pm the 3G network slows down significantly (I have tried speedtests in several different areas). It is under 400kbps in all cases and with 0 upload speed. Even web browsing is impossible.

On the Three website, it clearly states that they restrict internet usage at 'peak times' but only for P2P sharing, not for browsing and general downloading. I live in East Kent.

My current network is T-mobile, and I have no problems with data connection so I know the hardware itself is not faulty.

Does anyone else experience this? What are other peoples experience of Three as I am looking to change network.

Just sounds like the mast is getting congested at peak times.

Must be a lot of three users in your area.

They are phasing all you can eat out for tethering.
Existing customers are getting offer to sign new contracts and new customers can no longer have all you can eat tethering .
I think we shall see the service choked off, they have obviously decided they do not want any customers any more.
    Be happy...;)
  • All the networks have a limited bandwidth, you might have hundreds of users all trying to watch video and browse the web in your area during peak times. I don't think Three restrict the bandwidth, other than P2P etc., but it's supply and demand.

On holiday at a seaside town last year, Saturday evenings were impossible on Three, yet here in rural East Yorkshire I was able to download a 5GB file (via tethering on an iPhone 5) in little over an hour one weekday morning around 07:30...

As I type this, Saturday afternoon at 15:24, I am getting 12 Mb/s download and 1.8 Mb/s upload on Three. We are in a 3G area, no 4G here yet.

Look up 'Three use Traffic Sense', speeds slow down to almost nothing from 3pm to midnight.
