Nationwide Balance Transfer - beware!

in Credit cards
Anyone who has applied for a nationwide cc online and filled in the details to request a balance transfer under the 0% 24 months offer, make sure you check that the balance transfer has actually been processed.
A few days after receiving the card I noticed the bt still hadn't been actioned so sent a secure message asking when it would be done. I got quite an annoying reply which just said oh sorry this hasn't been done (no explanation why not) and telling me to apply for the transfer again via online banking or over the phone.
I tried several times through online banking but it just wouldn't work. Called them this morning, and after waiting an age to get through to someone, was finally told that there are quite a lot of credit cards for which Nationwide can only process bts manually over the phone (including my Virgin card) and that's why it hadn't worked from my application or from onine banking. The call handler said herself that she can't understand why Nationwide doesn't inform customers of this!
So make sure you check before 31 March that the bt has been done.

If you already have the card (before the 31st) you've 3 months from account opening date to make the BT with the 0.75% fee...haven't you?0 -

I thought I'd read that the bt had to be requested by 31 March, but might well be wrong!0 -

I have this deal and you must make the BT within 30 days of being accepted. Or so I was told from Nationwide customer services. The 31st of March, close of business is when the offer ends.:money:

Yes, problems. I took out the card about two weeks ago. Did a couple of balance transfers and they've gone through without a hitch. I then thought I'd transfer about £600 from my MBNA Virgin card but the Nationwide system wouldn't accept it. It claimed the card number was not compatible with the card type (wrong; it was). Next step was to try a BT from the card I use for business expenses as a kind of money-go-round approach. This time it's an MBNA Amex card. I got right up to the final hurdle with this one, then "Sorry we can't process your request at this time". It sems to me they need to sort out their IT systems. Maybe they're overwhelmed with what is an exceptionally good BT offer.0
