Finding Lender. Account No and Product Information

Options
Hi

My question is about the best place/s forum users would recommend to get lists of possible financial products on which PPI may have been mis-sold.

I'm currently in the process of reviewing all the financial products I've had in order to determine if I was mis-sold PPI on any of them.

I've made one successful claim and received a payout of £7000 on an unsecured 3 year loan which I paid off a few years ago.

The last 6 years are no problem and I have some of my old paperwork, and an Experian credit report to work from.

Some companies have been really helpful over the phone and some have not, leading me to send away for details about policies as recommended by the FAQs and Guide on this site. IMO that's fine as for £10 outlay on my part, I could find another potential claim.

However, I've become unstuck as to finding out what policies I had over 6 years ago and have kept very little paperwork from that far back. Experian only lists the accounts active in the last 6 years.

Do any of you have tips on places where clues might be found?

Thanks

Sarah

Over 6 years is down to your memory.

I took out a Halifax mortgage in 2007 and was sold PPI and emplyment protection cover by a mortgage adviser attached to an estate agency. Halifax has since advised me that no record of PPI existed on this mortgage. I can't remember who the policy was with, if it was not with the Halifax directly. Does anyone know who might have Halifax 'recommended' if anything?

It doesn't matter. Any complaint about mis-selling goes to the seller not the provider. If PPI was sold by a Halifax employee then you complain to Halifax. If it was sold by a Broker, you need to complain to the broker or the Estate Agent he/she worked for.
Are you certain you even had PPI?

Halifax wouldnt recommend anyone. It is not their place to. They would not know who you bought your insurances with.

You complain to the estate agent. However, you will need good strong reasons if you want to succeed. Most MPPI complaints are rejected and adviser complaints only account for 1% of PPI complaints and most of those are rejected. Whilst MPPI can be mis-sold, it doesnt have as many issues as loan and credit card PPI and is generally considered a more important type of PPI given the debt it covers. Today, it is one of only two types of PPI still retailed.

Are you sure it is PPI? It may have been life assurance and/or critical illness cover and/or income protection. There are a number of insurances that are suitable for mortgages.
