Think you may be right about the plant mervyn11. When it first appeared I hoped it might be chervil. We'll see when the flowers bloom. I'm not in any great rush to free up this bit of the allotment and I have just found a recipe for pickled cow parsley stems so they may earn a place on the allotment.

About the beastie- I go by something Geoff Hamilton once said. If it moves slowly it's a plant eater. If it moves fast it's a predator, so probably on your side.0
