Hi
I am running my first Macrium backup on a Dell Windows 8.1 computer.
Towards the end of the backup - "Starting Image", I get an error message:
Backup aborted! - Volume Snapshot Failed for Volume - D
Has anyone seen this before and what do I do to fix it? I am trying to back up to my F drive on a USB stick Sandisk Cruzer Blade 8GB.
Thank you

might indicate a failing/corrupt hdd, run a chkdsk x: /f (where x is the drive letter you're trying to image) then try imaging again

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Thanks Gunjack
I will try that but my PC is only 2 weeks old from brand new with hardly any data on it.0 -
just re-read the OP... are you trying to put a full disk image onto a 8GB stick????? If it's just a few docs/pics/etc, less than 8GB, just copy & paste onto stick... you won't fit the OS onto it, you'll need a bigger external hdd to do that

Ah, I was wondering if it had to do with the space!! I have CD-R discs but they are 700mb each. I also have a WD external hard drive that I have backed up files from my old PC onto. If I create a Macrium image to that, will my other files be deleted?0 -
I'm not sure on how that exact backup program works but in general:
Depends on how the program creates the image.
If it's using shadow copy then it will be a couple of folders containing a whole bunch of compressed files.
If it's doing a straight image, then it will be one or 2 huge files at around 4Gb each (depending on how the external drive was formatted!).
It should NOT delete anything on the External drive, just take up free disk space.Laters

macrium creates one file, which is an image which wil be about the size of the USED space on the hdd it is imaging, so if you've used 30GB of a 500GB drive, the image will be about 30GB, NOT 500GB

what is on d: - there are some macrium settings under advanced that may help with vss debugging.
if you use the disk image option, not the clone option, then it won't wipe what's on your external hard disk.
a backup is 2 or more copies in different places, so hopefully you have the important data somewhere else as well.
flash drives are better for transporting files, not backup.!!

Closed, apologies for delay in replying. I had switched computer off for a few days and when I switched it back on and re-tried, Macrium run through okay. I have now backed up the image to my WD external HD. All files still intact.
Thanks for your help.0
