This is one of the reasons it's a good idea to read your own meter at least monthly - you get to see what going on and you can identify problems before they get out of hand. It's too late when the big bill comes in because you can't see what went wrong or when.

Even the most dense BG call centre employee would surely have no trouble identifying a possible meter fault, given apparent consumption of £550 a month. Why waste time getting and paying GSR's to check the system, when it's so obvious that the meter is faulty?

Hope so they just sent us a bill for the three week gap between the meter readings ie from when they read the meter till we complained about the meter on Thursday £379.00! But according to them it could not possibly be the meter!

You need to escalate your complaint to a higher level than the tier 1 call centre drones, they clearly don't have a clue.

Not having much luck with BG. Husband spoke to them last Monday and gave them an update on gas safe engineers findings. They said they would get the meter checked at our cost and that complaints would get back to us within 5 days. 9 days later and still waiting.....

Just to provide an update. BG eventually changed the meter and sent the original for testing. The results came back last week informing us that SGN could not test the meter for accuracy because the meter was so defective. We now have to reach an agreement with BG regarding the overpayment. To their credit they seem to be going to be reasonable over this.
Since they put in the new meter on 16 May we have used 112 units. Prior to this the replaced meter was clocking up 100 units a week!

Ideally you should now read the meter a bit more often so you can keep an eye on your consumption and hopefully identify if anything untoward happens.
That how I discover my water leak last year - the consumption suddenly increased for no apparent reason.
