  • My rice pudding still wasn't completely cooked after 2 hours last night so I finished it off on the hob and it only took a few minutes, I think my mistake was not boiling it in the initial cook, I had it at a simmer and them put it into the wonderbag so it probably just wasn't hot enough to begin with, The end result is a little claggy but tastes lovely. How long do you cook your rice puds for MG? do you just bring it all to the boil and then straight into the cooker or is there a trick?

    400ml whole milk
    100g pudding rice
    50g sugar
Half a Can of evaporated milk
    Tablespoon of vanilla extract

Bring everything up to a boil and simmer with the lid on for ten minutes - into the bag for three hours then stir in the rest of the evaporated milk.

Tis LUSH!!! DS2 loves it to pieces.

  • Thank you very much MG will give it another try and use your method, wish me luck, Lyn xxx.
  • I finally made mine today, my word does it take some fabric!

Think I have overfilled my triangles a little but think in time they might flatten down (at least, I hope so). I am going to try the rice pudding in it tomorrow and DH is convinced it won't work and all the effort I put into making to will have been a waste! Sooooo looking forward to proving him wrong

I'm with your DH hon - although I knew the "maffs" worked re retained heat and everything I wasn't totally convinced that it would really cook until I made one and tried it:o

Mind you I am totally sold on it now - in fact overnight I have made the most delicious thick and creamy yoghurt. Its very sweet so the temperature overnight was the right temperature to hold the bacteria perfectly for replicating.

I heated up my pot by putting a couple of inches of water in it - lid on and boil for five minutes.

I heated 1.5 litres of milk to blood temperature and stirred in the starter.

Tipped the water out of the pot - milk in whilst its still hot. Lid on and snuggled down overnight in the thermal bag.

This morning it was thick and sweet and creamy - so poured it into a plastic box and popped it into the fridge to thicken up even more.

Chopped apple, topped with yoghurt and a spoon of HM Granola - lovely brekkie for a Sunday morning.

  • Do you think this would work with curry? I have a jar of sauce, some ready cooked chicken and some onions and peppers, wonder if I heat it all up and put it in the thermal pot it will be ok?

How long would you cook it for? DD is out helping with lambing today so won't be able to reheat her bit as the chicken has already been cooked (part of my boomerang chicken) :D

Hello everyonr. I have a largish styrofoam box that some frozen meat was delivered in. If I filled it with even more styrofoam peanuts do you think that would work?. I would wrap the pot up in something also of course.
Also Memory Girl, may I ask what yogurt you use as a starter. I have been using easi yo as it was a gift, but would rather make my own as I found them too expensive plus I wanted no additives. Can I use full fat milk?
    Thanks for your help!

Yogging with easiyo apparatus is really easy.

Two tablespoons of rachels organic live yog, two or three spoons of dried milk, top up to the line with UHT carton whole milk (no need to heat) and pop lid on, put it in yogger and top up with boiling water as per usual. Lid on and off you go. Start the next batch with the yog you make.

  • So, here are the links to the photos for today's dinner, hoping this will do 2 servings for 3 people. Cast iron dish is 21cms so should be ok, the potatoes are home made ready roasted and wanted to use them up so decided this was the best option.

I can't seem to get the image from Flickr, only the link?

So here is my thermal cooking bag.....

It is just simmering for 10 mins with the lid on and then it's into the thermal bag for 3 hours.

I just use two tablespoons of the previous yoghurt and give it a good stir. Whole milk is fine - although pasturised should be warmed up a little before popping the starter in.

Let us know how you styrofoam box works - sounds like it should.
