Sharps bedrooms

Hi,
My husband and I have just signed up to have £3,500 worth of wardrobes built in our bedroom. We weren't going to sign straight away, but my husband was so impressed with the calm, organised designer that we did. I have since read a huge number of poor reviews and I wondered where we stand with cancelling the contract. I paid the deposit by cheque so could cancel it, but don't want to be in a position where I have to pay or they take me to court.
I would like to cancel the order and would love some advice. Should I just cancel the cheque now and try and call them on Monday or speak to them first about my concerns?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks. Vicki

your rights to cancel will usually be very clearly explained in the small print. You will need to read this.
PS: Sharps are a large national outfit. I know there are loads of poor reviews online as we were looking at them 2y ago and were similarly put off.
Have recently been to a friends place where their master suite was done by Sharps. TBH it was lovely. Obviously you pay a premium for the package including a sale man etc etc so cheaper strategies exist. However if the designer has done a good job then there should not be a problem.0 -
The trouble with reviews is that when people are unhappy they shout loud & long about it, but the happy people are so content enjoying the new addition to their home that they rarely even think of writing an online review to say how happy they were with the service.
As the saying goes, you can't please all of the people all of the time & I think unless you personally know somebody who has used them & been very dissatisfied, then I wouldn't let the online reviews put me off.
Even John Lewis gets dissatisfied customers, I've seen various moans about them on mse & never let that put me off of shopping there. No company that deals with a huge amount of people is going to be able to make everybody happy, some people find fault where another person will find none.
Often when you have a well known branded company do improvements in your home, it pays off when you come to sell. £3500 sounds pretty good for bespoke fitted wardrobes to me as well. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
We had a Sharps bedroom fitted when we bought a house in 1995 (yes, I know it was a long time ago LOL). Fitters were superb as was the bedroom, expensive though. We know the people that bought the house and although the style is a bit dated now the bedroom is still going strong and they have had no problems in the 19 years it's been in.0

We had a Sharps fitted wardrobe installed. Not cheap, but extremely well fitted. No problems at all with it.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
My brother had sharps fit a bedroom (about 10 years ago) and it looked very nice and still does.0

I've recently had a horrendous experience with Sharps since purchasing Sliding Doors in January.
They have had to refit 4 times and the joinery has been really poor.
Just be very clear they understand what you want and also that the joiner can understand the measurements and requirements.
I couldn't speak badly enough of the company and I would dearly love to put everyone off from using them but I am sure they get it right some of the time!
If you aren't happy though, do not expect anything close to a satisfactory level of customer service, empathy or reaction time.
The negative reviews I have found are worryingly consistent.
Apologies for coming across bitter, but that is exactly what I am unfortunately and I am pursuing legal action.

Hi
We've just had wardrobes fitted in our bedroom and dressing room by Sharps and we are really happy! The guy who fitted them, on his own, was lovely and his workmanship is superb. We are now planning on getting them back to for a home office.
Having said this, we haven't written a review on their website and I wonder if lots of people who are happy don't bother to write a review. Perhaps you're more likely to hear about problems?
Hope this is helpful

I just had a wardrobe fitted by them yesterday, really please with the whole process and the wardrobes seem to be a really good quality. Plus you get a 12 year guarantee with them0

Hi Vicki,
As a husband and wife family business offering custom made furniture like Sharps, you should be within your rights to change your mind. We haven't been in this situation ourselves but would certainly not hold a customer to a sale if they changed their minds early, as long as no materials had been ordered and manufacturing hasn't begun.
Like others we have heard mixed reviews from Sharps but recommendations are definitely the way to go. As above, some people have been happy with the service.
A 12 year guarantee must mean they have confidence in their product. We offer 10 years too. They would be silly to install a less than standard product!
Just give them a call to see where you stand. Did you receive terms and conditions or an order form which details what you do if you change your mind!
Hope it goes well. Like you. I go by my gut instinct on if I'm happy to proceed, especially when investing so much.
Good luck. Would love to hear how you got on.

Yes, you have a right to cancel. I think it's 7 days, from memory. It applies if the company made the contract at your home, whether invited or not.
Personally, I would run a mile from Sharps. You could go to Ikea and get something amazing looking for a fraction.0
