I need to replace my washing machine and am thinking of buying this one: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1285941.htm
I have never had Hoover products before, are they any good? I have Indesit at the moment and it has last almost 10 years.

I seem to remember they rate poorly in Which mag.
Bosh is the way to go.
Or, join Which for a £1“Everything comes to pass, nothing comes to stay.”0 -
No don't do it! I've had no end of problems with my hoover washing machine & had an engineer out loads, its only 2 years old & soooo noisy!0

Ah, OK. Thanks for the advice.
Any idea what make to go for? I don't want to spend any more than £300 preferably.0 -
If you can stretch to a Bosch, that would be my first choice. Some places have a £50 cash back offer on some models at the moment & know John Lewis are one of the places with the offer.
I don't know what £300 will get you, it doesn't sound much to me, but have a look around.
My current machine is a Neff (same company who makes Bosch) but my last machine was a Zanussi & only lasted 4 yrs & with it only doing on average 3 washes every 2 weeks, I wasn't amused. So I wouldn't buy that brand again.
There is this website where you can get good advice & tips about what the most reliable brands are & which to avoid. http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/forumsphpbb3/The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Not sure if its still there but there is a siemens on john lewis with £75 trade in for your old one plus 5 year warrantyFeudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I am thinking about getting this one:

Again, I have never had a Beko before, so am looking for opinions please.
The one that I am getting rid of is a Bendix.0 -
Hoover no longer exists, Hoover branded appliances are manufactured by the Candy Group.
If you want a washing machine , Bosch, Siemens, or if flush Miele. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

I've got a Hoover Optima 7kg 1400 spin. Purchased in 2009. It looks virtually identical to the one in the link.
Had a problem with the programmer very early on which was repaired under warranty but still had same fault intermittently.
I usually use the Coloureds wash @ 40 degrees and 1200 spin - slower spin in the good weather when you can peg the washing out. I have never, ever known a washing machine cause so many creases. I daren't use 1400 spin unless it's towels. Ironing has always been a chore but it's 10 times worse with this machine.
I usually wash clothes inside out. When I take them out of this machine they have turned themselves the right way or half and half and don't mention fitted sheets - they come out in a ball with other washing tangled inside them. It doesn't have that slow tumbling at the end of the cycle and you virtually have to peel the washing off the drum unless it's fitted sheets!
It's been faulty for the last few months - the door lock sensor I think (Error Code E07) which means I can't use the delay timer (we are on Economy 7). You have to wait to hear a faint click before you can open the door. The padlock is still lit. If you aren't quick enough the display goes to E07 then you have to turn the dial to the Off position and wait a few minutes and then you open the door. We are up early enough to start the washing and still get cheap rate though. I'm not having it repaired, just carry on until it packs up altogether.
I would avoid.0 -
Which have a bit of a habit of catering to a middle class readership and opting for the best at any price, but these are currently listed as best buys in the £250-£300 price range:
Hotpoint WMFG631P UK £268
Hotpoint WMEF742P £253
Hotpoint WMEF742G £257
Samsung WF80F5E5U4W Ecobubble comes top at of the lot at £550
Bosch WAQ28461GB scores well at £418
A lot of the other top ones are £700-£1100
Miele and Bosch score best for reliability (at a price), Hoover worst. Beko is more reliable than Hotpoint, but they don't list a Beko among the best buys. My Hotpoint has had four breakdowns in 14 years. They haven't tested the Beko you're looking at, but there are a lot of 'Don't Buys' among the ones they have tested. The common criticisms seem to be poor wash, not easy to use, greedy with water, slow, noisy.0
