Bank acknowledge fault after accidently placing a closed account on default

after recently being tured down for a mortgge due to default bank account that we no longer use back in 2011.
i chased this up with the bank.
the reply i got was this was an accident on their behalf and by way of an apology offered £200
i have spoke to a few people who think that the derisory offer isnt enough due to the stress and emmbaressment this has created.
not to mention that we are still unable to bid for any houses and have had to put off the surveyor of the people who want to buy our house as we still dont know whether we can get a mortgage.
they have alsoadvised that they will correct the default.
any advice?

Are you in a position where you know what your total loss is or is likely to be...both financially and also in terms of 'distress and inconvenience'? If not, there's no point accepting/suggesting any offer yet.
Once you know your financial loss, take a look at the case studies on the FOS website and see what they've awarded for similar complaints where 'distress and inconvenience' has been suffered.0 -
i guessthere hasnt been any finincial loss,, howver at this moment in time we have sold our house STC but are unable to bid on houses.
we have seen 2 that we fell in love with but these have now since sold and with the prices going up on a weekly basis we are finding that we are slowly being priced out of the m arket.
also the houses are few and far between so to be in aposition where we cannot bid for anything is creating havoc ion my house hold.

i guessthere hasnt been any finincial loss
Time expended dealing with the issue (x hours at £10 per hour)
Something for the distress and inconvenience suffered (£x)
The first is very easy to quantify.
The second?...well you can't quantify that, so the best option would be to do as I suggested above.
But in dealing with the bank, the next move is yours. You can't say "that isn't enough, I want more"...you need to make a counter offer to settle without the involvement of the FOS (and ICO if necessary).0 -

yes it was the only bad thing on my excellent credit score and my mortgage advisor after speaking with santander stated due to a problem with my credit score the application has been declined0 -

so are you saying that the default has no bearing on the mortgage application??
thanks0 -
Forgive me for being new to this, but the credit score I got from experia was excellent 987 ?
Or does that mean nothing0 -
Scores mean nothing.0
