I know there's a similar thread already, but my question is slightly different, so I didn't want to hijack there.
I'm looking for a laptop that will last a fair few years, handle GCSE and A-level coursework, as well as the usual teen internet and gaming (for an idea of game types, the main user is a Skyrim player and likes his simulation games, though is not an online gamer on the whole, more disk/offline).
Not really knowing where to start, I looked on PC World for some ideas, and did narrow down to two that look like they have potential in term of processor speeds and memory - my question, are they right, are they a good deal, or is there better out there for sub £400?
I did ask in my local independent pc shop, and as soon as he heard the word 'game' he started using all kinds of jargon and was trying to sell me ones at £1000+ - when I know the games in question are currently running, albeit at low res, on an old sub £300 HP refurb.
The two I'm looking at are the Advent Torino Z200 (http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/advent-torino-z200-15-6-laptop-21846101-pdt.html), and the Lenovo G500 (http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/lenovo-g500-15-6-laptop-21707559-pdt.html).

You probably not able to do much gaming on £400 machine.
this two Medion at £410 provide good value. Much better than those two from PC world.

With budget of £550, you would be able to have a lot more choice, but I though you probably not prepare to spend that much...0 -
Thanks for the suggestions - will take a look. I might be able to push to that kind of figure next month, but the lower I can keep it the better.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0
