Bathroom brands - recommendations welcome

Hi,

I am currently putting in a new bathroom and downstairs WC in my house. I have looked at a number of websites and brochures and now know what we want which is:

Main bathroom - a P shaped bath with overhead shower, furniture for a semi recess sink and back to wall WC unit in white high gloss

Downstairs WC
slim furniture back to wall WC and small washbasin vanity

as these are fairly common at the moment I have found the most places have roughly what we want but I am struggling to pick a brand. People have told us to not go for the bathstore as the quality is not good. others have said the same about B&Q.

Does anyone have a recommendation of a good quality but not overly expensive bathroom company to buy from.

We already have someone to fit it and do all the tiling so literally just need to buy the items.

Unfortunately good quality will never be cheap.

Anything from Laufen/Villeroy Boch/Duravit will be good quality (these are only some of the quality brands).

Likewise, Hansgrohe/Grohe make some of the best brassware.

Matki/Aqata etc make good shower enclosures.

Bette is a decent brand to consider if you're after a bath. The best 2 brands of thermostatic shower fitments & taps I've had have been Grohe & Aqualisa

I've had shower cubicles by Bristan & Aqualux, which have both been excellent, but other decent brands are Merlyn & Roman. There are more out there, but sure others can give you their opinion.

My current wc is by Roca.

Don't restrict yourself to one shop to buy everything, when I had my recent bathroom refit I sourced almost each item needed from different places, so do shop around to ensure you are getting just what you want & at the best price.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

This. We have Hansgrohe & Villeroy & Boch in our master bathroom & ensuite and put Crosswater (mid-range, price-wise) elsewhere. You get what you pay for, quality-wise!

Agree with Cattie too that Bette baths are excellent quality, although our most recent purchases have been Sottini (very good) and Clearwater (not so good)......wouldn't recommend Bristan personally though.....

All of the above advice is good, though Ryder's comes at a price...the quality cant be argued with..

For reasonable quality and a more reasonable price..

    Roca for sanitaryware

    Aqualux for shower enclosures.

    Bristan for brassware.

Don't be too scared of shopping in the sheds (though B&Q are pants) or at plumbers merchants like City Plumbing or Grahams. There is some good stuff around at decent prices these days.

Work for Wickes, and although our product is unbranded some of the better stuff comes from reputable suppliers including those mentioned above...

Doesn't really matter what you go for, except for the P shaped bath. Any bath you look at, should have the thickest bottom on it you can get. Don't scrimp on this part, as with standing up, over an extended time may cause it to crack. Go for one with a good layer of marine ply glued into it, it will make it more hard wearing.

We have Vitra sanitary wear and the spa bath came from a co called Trojan, but got the trojancast version. Both of us are heavy in build and there is no movement at all in the bath. It took 3 of them to get it up the stairs ! http://trojanplastics.co.uk/baths/shower-baths/

Thank you all, I will have a look at those brands tonight.

We were planning on an Aqualisa shower as we have one where we are now and it has been a good shower for 11 years so far.

The cloakroom we are thinking of getting from Better Bathrooms: http://www.betterbathrooms.com/bathroom-furniture/vail-combination-units/vail-410-combination-unit

the the bathroom we were going to go for the wickes Seville range with the Misa bath.

Rustyboy, you are right, I hadn't thought about the bath like that.

    Hmmm, food for thought

A smaller sink comes in handy when space is tight, but I don't like the one we have. Upstairs in the proper bathroom, we have a full size sink which is fine. Downstairs in the shower room, they were going to fit a std size one, but I got them to change it to a small vanity unit and sink, to give more room. Worst thing I did. I predominantly use the shower room, even brushing my teeth, the floor gets wet, It looks like I have had a roll about in the sink after a shave, there is more water on the floor, than in the sink.

If you do go down this route, just don't have a go at any male members of the household, They will soak your bathroom ! lol

wickes bathrooms are really good and the price is amazing, i would also recommend them. I shop in Uxbridge and they are so help full, nothing seems like too much trouble for them

And of course you are not in any way one of the designers or managers in the Uxbridge store, are you?:D
