Let us Spray

We have two cats - both aged 10 - unrelated
One has always "sprayed" in the garden
The other (who has an overactive thyroid) has never been able to spray (I am guessing that this was down to a more successful neutering, 9 + years ago ?)
Anyway - recently (last two weeks) - a cat has been spraying IN our conservatory - I automatically blamed the cat who has still got the ability - but on thinking about it - I was wondering whether the ability to spray may come "later in life" and could it be linked to his illness
The smell is strong and we are trying to trace where it has been sprayed using a UV lamp - but so far have been unsuccessful (it seems to be in the air/everywhere in the conservatory)
Alternatively - could it be an intruder cat ? - we have a cat flap that is closed at night - opened at around 4-5am when out (ill) cat wakes us up to be let out !!
Any advice welcome

When I had the same problem with my rescue cat spraying I didn't have a UV lamp but its gross but if you get down low and have a good sniff you will find the source.
Urineoff is good to get rid of the smell after you've removed as much as you can.
I have two cats and wasn't sure which one it was until he did it in front of us.

We have a micro chip reading cat flap so that stops any strays.

Years ago we had a neighbour black cat that used to bully his way through the cat flap in the early hours.

His favourite trick was to eat my guys food and then spray up the kitchen side.

It was so bad we ended up having to replace the kitchen work surface as it leaked passed the sealant and was in the grouting.

We changed the cat flap over to one that only lets your cats in but he was a huge beast and i watched him ram it one day until the latch dropped.

In the end we took drastic measures (after we caught him weeing up the new work top) we put a cover over the flap then chased him about the house, we didn't lay a hand on him or hurt him just shouted and chased and chased until he was a bit frantic then opened the flap.

Not proud of this, i don't like the idea we scared him at all (in fact i cried as i would hate for some one to do that to my cats) but the stink of cat pee was becoming unbearable as soon as you came home and opened the front door i could smell it.

He did not come back in the house thankfully.
Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...
