The funding is available from the term after the childs 3rd birthday i.e. born in January, funded after Easter. I think it is for 5 two and a half hour sessions in term time only. However, if your child is at a school nursery which you dont pay for, the funding is used to provide this, and you wont get extra money. If your child is at a private nursery they can apply for the funding and it will be taken off your bill. You do not actually receive the money.

    Hope this helps.

All true, except they are funded for 33 weeks, not the normal school length of 36weeks

    Is this means tested?

My little one starts nursery soon and wont be 3 for 12 months, but she was born in August, so what is the term after her 3rd Birthday - would that be September?

It's now 38 weeks. In Kent, it is divided this year in to 14 weeks, 12 weeks and 12 weeks.

Yes it would be the September. Although rules do change on a regular basis, so I would get info from your local council nearer the time
  • summer babies would get the funding in september. in our case i'm expecting my son to start at the preschool nursery which we don't pay for, so it won't affect us. my friend's baby is a bit older than mine so she can get funding for the summer term if he is in a nursery setting.

At my daughters nursey they gave all the parents a form to fill out last week if your child was 3 and due for funding to send off to education department so that we qualify for the funded sessions i would contact the childcare provider you are looking at sending your child to.

My son is about to turn 3 too, and at his current preschool/playgroup they organise it for you, you just have to fill in a form. They then tell you how much you owe them after they've collected the voucher money (unfortunately that doesn't go very far where I live).
