Have managed to restore the computer from a crash and can get access to the drives, but if I try to open the files in programs/programs X86 I just keep getting the above message appearing.
Anyone have a idea how I can resolve this, as have searched through the forum to no avail.

Have run chkdsk and it has found no errors. Do i still need to run system restore, as it may take me back to the original problem.
I have the system recovered file that I am now booting into.
Thanks for the helpAs Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
elaborate on the problem, and what you did.
the terminology around system restore can be confusing, the idea was system restore to before the problem started!!

The original problem, was a malwarebytes scan, that said I had a pup infection, think it was to do with something from microsoft. So I got it to delete it and do the restart.
Then everything crashed, and could only get to the windows logo before a black screen with just the cursor.
Don't know what I did after that, but managed to get to a system recovered option, which gave me a basic W7 setup. Had to load a lot of drivers etc, to get graphics, network etc working again.
Now when I boot up, I have to system recovered options. The first just gets to the logo, or welcome screen and then nothing, and the second gets me into virtually everything.
HTHAs Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
still not clear what you mean by system recovered.
make and model of machine
do you have a windows 7 disc
has all your data gone
what file did malwarebytes fix, it should be in the malwarebytes log unless you have reinstalled windows!!

The machine is a build with a Fata1ity P67 mb, with 2 sata drives, 8Gb ram. I have a W7 disc, but not the original as the parts were sent from Thailand by my wife's son as a present for me to upgrade my old XP unit. W7 was already installed on the hard drive.
All the data still seems to be there, as I have been able to get a lot back, but it is just some things that have given the error as in the post.
Honestly cannot remember the file or find the MBAM log, Had been watching the Aussie GP on Wiziwig just before.
Thanks for you patience and help
Edit: when I get the boot screen, then I get a black screen asking what I want to start up in. There are 2 options of which both are labelled as system recovered. As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
when do you get the sxs errror.
I'd be tempted to try all the F8/system restore options, and failiing that backup with disk imaging software http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx , and reinstall w7 on one drive.!!

The error appeared when I tried to open some of rhe program files on the "E" drive on the machine. It seems the "exe" files are missing in there and that is what is causing the problem.
Did try to restore using the vhd option, but could not get that to work at all, despite it seeming to let me get a virtual hard disk. But the 118gb vhd, on the "F" drive would not show on it.
Thanks againAs Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0 -
more smoke than light at the moment. I don't know what has been deleted by malwarebytes, or what type of restore you have tried from where, or what exe's you mean, or what is on the e: drive or f: drive. Run malwareytes, and look at the log.
a vhd could be a windows backup, or just a virtual hard disk.
system restore restores the registry ( a load of settings) primarily, not a whole system from backup.
1st step when something goes wrong is to boot, holding F8, and try system restore to make sure the machine is using a reasonable version of the registry - this may or may not be relevant to the sxs problem.
try
sfc /scannow!!

Sorry, that it is so confusing to you, as it is to me.
I will try the system restore later today, if I can find a valid restore point. With the "exe" point, then I tried to find them in the application files in the programs on the other drives, but they were not there.
The "F" drive has the vhd file which is the system image that I was trying to get back, to no avail, unfortunately.
Thanks again ........... old brain hurts now!!!As Manuel says in Fawlty Towers: " I Know Nothing"0
