Windows 8 stuck on log on screen

I have been clearing up my grandson's laptop as there was a lot of junk eg ilivid on it. The last thing I did was Junk Removal Tool, now the only screen I can access is the log on screen but I cannot put in his password as it is symbols coming up and not letters, I cannot right click, if I power off and back on, all there is just some symbols.

No if only it was as simple as that.
Managed to do a OneKey Recovery, so starting from scratch again.0 -
