Should we keep the goods?

Hi all,

I am hoping you can help with a dilemma!

I ordered a dustbin for my mum from Amazon but earlier this week two boxes arrived containing toys. There was nothing in or on the boxes to identify who the sender was or who they were supposed to be going to.

I contacted MyHermes (the courier who delivered the parcels), both by phone and by email, who have confirmed that, according to their records these parcels were definitely sent correctly to my mum.

I have contacted the Amazon seller who confirmed that their parcel tracking shows that MyHermes delivered their parcel (supposedly the dustbin, but in reality toy cars), according to their instructions, to my mum as requested.

I have explained to both parties that my mum has not ordered these toys and they must have been sent in error, I am assuming that there was a mix up with the courier company somehow.

The Amazon seller has apologised and is sending my mum a replacement dustbin via a different courier, to arrive tomorrow.

We have no way of knowing who to return these toys to, as there is no paperwork, senders identification or recipients identification. MyHermes say that, as far as they are concerned, the right package went to the right address. The Amazon seller isn't bothered about the items, as they sell household goods not toys.

I have heard of the Unsolicited Goods Act, but am not really sure if that relates to this matter or not.

We have made every effort to find out where these items came from or should have gone to, but have drawn a total blank. So, the question is, can we keep them?!

Thanks loads, Cathy :-)
