Withdrawing OUT First Directs Regular Save - help

Hi there,

So my First Directs 12 month Regular saver has finished, got the interest paid in and all is hunky dory.

I sent a secure message them and said 'Please can you transfer out all remaining balances of the regular savings account to my account that was feeding it (and gave the details for it) and shutdown both accounts asap'

About 1-2 hours later I cant get access to my First Direct accounts and it said I no longer have this service - so presumably they have wiped the accounts now. However, I obviously cant login to see if they ever replied to my secure message and I also dont know how long until I should see the money come up in my other account?

I did this yesterday morning and still havent recieved anything today at 19:00. Surely they would do an instant BACs transfer? Anyone know how long this takes?

Not even sure if that is what they have done, or they have just closed my account for whatever reason and the money still remains in there.

Please help

Thank you for linking me to the website, but it doesn't actually state there how long it will take to go back to my account after I have told them to move it back and close the account.

I've already contacted them to transfer it and close accounts, but now the account has closed I dont have access to it and cant see their reply and see how long it takes to transfer, of it that is what they are doing.

Alex, you do seem to have made it difficult for yourself. You could have transferred the cash using online banking. You could have started another regular saver.

I suggest you ring first direct. They're open 24/7/365. Make use of their excellent customer service.

You asked them to close the accounts, they've closed them. Have you tried calling them ?

I dont want to have regular savers anymore. 12 months + hassle for £90 isn't worth it imo. Each to their own though. Would rather have less accounts with more in than hundreds of DDs every month.

I couldnt transfer the money OUT of my regular saver to my other FD account or my other account in this case. It wouldnt let me so i sent a secure message to withdraw all remaining balances and close the accounts.

Not quite, I understand reading maybe difficult for you but try again dear.

Called them and they basically said it shouldve been in yesterday but they had typed in the details wrong or something like that and it never went to me so they are doing it now. Fuss over. Just First Direct messing up as per usual.

You do not need one single DD for the First Direct Regular Saver. Nor do you need hundreds of DDs every month if you exploit all the interest-paying current accounts, but that's just a by-the-by.

The standard procedure, as per the T&Cs, is that upon maturity First Direct will transfer the Regular Saver funds (incl interest) into a savings account. From there you can do an internal transfer into your current account, and then use FPs to transfer the money to literally anywhere you like.

sounds like you were too impatient.

As usual? You are the first person I see reporting issues with their FD Regular Saver on MSE. I am not a particular fan of FD but I dislike exaggerations and badmouthing.

Any problems you experienced over this withdrawal were of your own making.
