Perhaps another option could be "Reform it so that people are liable to pay tax (eg, at their marginal tax rate) on the amount they receive from an estate. A certain amount per person to be tax-free."

For what it's worth, I think " It's an important way to stop perpetuating privilege by birth and to redistribute income" is rather inflamatory! Many people (especially in the SE) whose estates are over the IHT threshold weren't born with silver spoons in their mouths - they just happened to have bought a home which has balloned in value over the years. (I agree with mgdavid that Option 1 should simply be 'keep it as it is now")

Very true; a poll should be purely objective. This isn't a political campaign, it's just seeking views.

Nice to see that the poll has been published (on the Money Saving Polls forum) without taking the slightest bit of notice of a single word anyone has taken the time to post on here.

Also, although the email hasn't come out yet, the poll was published on 28 Mar, ie before giving anyone a chance to respond to the question already asked on here.

So why bother to ask at all, MSE Debs and MSE Andrea?

I shan't bother to comment again if it's not going to be read, nor I'm sure will any other contributors.

And there wouldn't seem much point in taking part in the polls in future either.

For completeness you could include an option to keep it and reduce the level at which it starts - I doubt if many people would vote for it but some might.

Exactly what I was going to say and the option I'd vote for, particulary if the rate was raised as well as the threshold lowered.
