Hello Techie gurus
I am prostrating myself upon the altar of your combined superior knowledge - no filthy comments please
Okay, I'll tell you what I need, and you'll probably tell me it's not possible, but I'll give it a go.
Basically, I hate web mail, I have AOL and Hotmail accounts and I really don't want them. What I'd really like is an address like me@myemail.com BUT I really want this to then come through to my Outlook inbox rather than logging in etc (plus I use Outlook for work, and I prefer the functionality etc).
Can this be done, if so how, who with and how much? - Sorry, I'm a novice
Thanking you all muchly in advance

The easiest way to do this if you want your own domain is to find a webhoster that would register the domain for you and provide you with both web space and email addresses. Most will do that.
Unfortunately I haven't got any recommendations for a service like this out of my own experience...0 -
I personally get domains from UKreg and then pay for hosting which includes pop3 facilities through Fasthosts which is the same company. Probably not the cheapest, about £3/year for the domain and something like £40/year for hosting but there may be cheaper email only packages."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I use http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ for my domain names. You can get a .co.uk. address for about 3 quid a year. This only gives you mail forwarding through and you need a searver to recive and store it.
If you look at http://www.123-reg.co.uk/web-hosting/ through you can pick up the starter site space for about 20 quid a year which gives you some space and the above mentioned e-mail boxs that you need. Once you have the mail boxes you point the name at the boxes and then you set up outlook to pick it up from those boxes. Job done (well it's more complicated than that, but they have some good user guides on there!).
Acturly looking around my other accounts the firm i use for my web hosting in the states are doing 5 mail boxes with a gig of storage for about $20 a year (£12) which you could combine with the name service from the other firm so it'd cost you about £15 a year to do what you want to do.
I'd advise finding someone who knows what they are doing if you go for the muliple firm solution mind... you have to repoint the dns searvers between firms and whilst easy if you understand the process, the isn't a instruction manual for users saying how to do it.0 -
I am not sure if this is exactly what you want, but....
Inbox.com will alow you to use your own email programme, I use incredimail, to send or receive messages. If you are out and about you are able to get your messages via the Inbox.com web page.
Best of both worlds.
I hope this helps.0 -
I second the recommendation of www.123-reg.co.uk for the purchase of a domain name like www.mydomain.com. I would steer clear of them for the actual hosting though. For this, I heartily recommend www.jamroll.net, which will provide email addresses (and webspace if needed) for free. I've been with them for 2 years, and found them reliable.Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0

I bought a domain name years ago which has web forwarding so I give out my email as me@mydomain.com which then points to the email my isp gave me. me@myisp.co.uk
Means I can (and have done) changed my isp but my email address is always the same. just need to point it in the right directionWe all evolve - get on with it0 -
I've had 123 for about 3 years, first as a redirect to my isp's mail box then as a mail host. I've only 1 issue (might be changed now, not noticed to be honest) and that's they won't accept emails above a certain size, 5mb if I remember correctly.0

Although isn't that pretty much the same for every email provider? Even if you found one that could do 20 MiB, doesn't mean the recipient's email provider would accept that size."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Dunno, never had the issue with bt or hotmail, 5Meg is too small in this day and age in my opinion<edit> well, I say that, but I only want it in a blue moon when I forget my key :-) </edit>superscaper wrote: »Although isn't that pretty much the same for every email provider?
