Paid deposit for a kitchen, they want the rest before work starts

seems very odd that the contract doesn't seem to exist (this could be a warning sign).
What is the size of company involved? How would you be paying the balance? cash or card? Anything that gives you protection should they not 'deliver' for whatever reason..
Though look at this from the other side, how can they guarantee that you would pay once it was installed!0 -
Such a vague and amateur contract indicates to me that the firm involved may be equally amateur as installers.
But, to be fair, why didn't you ask the question before you signed and paid a 50% deposit? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks everyone - they seemed to be a legitimate business, they operate from a permanent showroom in our local trading estate. They stock Second Nature kitchens (who I assume have to approve their traders?). This is really the first time we have ever hired fitters/builders, etc. so I guess very inexperienced.
We assumed on paying the deposit that the rest would be paid on completion of the works, as nothing was said to the contrary.
They do take credit card so if push comes to shove, we could pay with the card and be protected in that way...0 -
No, not cash, not card, not anything. NEVER EVER pay workman for a job before it's completed and you're completely satisfied.
You need know nothing more.Pants0
