Had enough of old bag:)

Just back from short break and decided I need new luggage before next time.
The bag I have now (hold luggage) is a sort of large holdall with wheels. So it can be pulled along but it hasn't an extending handle. I'm fairly tall so it means I'm leaning/bending towards it and twisting my back.
For cabin luggage, I've only got small holdalls/large handbags so always end up paying for hold luggage even for short breaks.
I need to invest in new luggage with wheels. Ideally something that's fairly lightweight before anything goes into it. I need something largish for longer holidays (1- 3 weeks) and also I'd like to explore something I could take on board for a short break (3 - 4 days). Price isn't the highest priority (durability is)but I don't want Louis Vuitton!
I reckoned as this is a board for travellers it would be the best place to ask.
Any recommendations? Advice? Brands?
TIA

We replaced our aging cases with a "set" (bought separately) of Samsonite cases.
Werent the cheapest but are very light, distinctive enough to easily spot on the carousel but not freakishly so and after 30 flights so far there is no visible marks/ wear other than normal wheel wear.
The latest version are http://www.samsonite.co.uk/pop-fresh-spinner-expandable-80cm-30inch-grey-green/product-en.htm?or=7367658788 which are slightly different from ours but close enough
Sales prices were a lot less than their own website state - just to add0 -
Yes, when we were at Heathrow recently, the people who were least stressed seemed to have the suitcase style with the four wheels that can e wheeled upright (as per the link above) rather than just pulled along on the two wheels.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Whilst they are not the cheapest I would thoroughly recommend samsonite cosmolite cases, they are shell cases, very durable, very light.
They have four wheels and also a tsa lock which is invaluable for any travel to the US you might do.
Had the cases 5 years now and do at least three long haul trips a year and they are still like new.0 -
We have had our set of 3 (small, medium, large) suitcases and vanity case from antler for 10 years and love them! Hard cases and were not cheap but still going strong :-)0

Our suitcases are all Antler or Samsonite, and I'd highly recommend either brand. I would slightly favour Samsonite at the moment though because I am an upright (2 wheel) fan as opposed to spinners (4 wheels) which make up most of Antler's line now.0

Thanks for all the advice. I'll certainly be taking a look at the Samsonite ranges. I'll maybe look in store and the wait to see if any sales anywhere on line or otherwise.0

Debenhams have a sale on luggage at the moment. Their Tripp luggage is great and they've got both soft and hard shell cases available. Guaranteed for 5 years

we bought a set of 4-wheelers from an outlet mall - believe it was a Samsonite outlet but ours are American Tourister (which I think may be the cheaper cousins). We will never go back to 2 wheeled cases. The only downside is because the wheels are attached to the outside of the case by a sort of bracket we did have one pop off once when we were taking the case out of the boot - it got caught and we didn't notice and heaved it out. A bit of superglue and several trips later and it's still fine.
It is so nice to be able to push them along in front of us. Even with 2 larger cases we can put them back to back with the handles in the middle and push them along together.
So do check if there is an outlet near you at least.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I used to pick up a couple of case every other year from TK Maxx, but got bored with replacing them and after a very good year I treated my self to a set of Halliburton suitcases which should outlive me.0

Another vote for Tripp.... DH works for an airline and has recently bought a new Tripp case. A lot of cabin crew have them for regular travel (you'll also see them use stalwart brands such as Delsey and Samsonite). This one is a great size and a really good bargain at the moment. Worth checking to see if cheapest via Tripp or at Debenhams:
