hi
im off to university in september, if i had no bills id be in an ideal situation, with 810 a month, but i wont be and i will only be left with 290 i have worked out. i have some stuff in my store cupboard (cartons of passata and tinned food) that has used by dates on them. is it possible to stock up on these things or do they actually have to be used by the date mentioned? thanks!

Do you mean you have £290 after you have paid rent and utility bills? What are you expecting to spend on food and transport and clothing and anything else per month?
I recommend some of the food plans on these forums for cheap meals. If you plan ahead as a single person you could easily live off £20-25 for food a week.
And you can stock up on tinned food. They tend to have long shelf lives. Whether you want to eat them past the use by date is up to you. I personally would not eat tinned food a couple of weeks after the date but that is just me!0 -

Think yourself well off. My daughter will be stuck with around £100 a month for food and everything else. Just hoping she can get a job.Truth always poses doubts & questions. My son lives off £60 per week.
He shops at Aldi & bulk cooks & freezes portions.
Him & his housemates also chip in & buy some stuff that's on offer if it works out cheaper.
Their local pub does 2 meals for £6 so they often go there as it's cheaper than buying meat.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
My daughter spends about £50-£55 a week on food and groceries and all her general shop, and nights out. They get massive discounts on entry to nightclubs and suchlike. Nearly £300 a month (after rent and bills etc,) is plenty to live on, and maybe even save a bit.Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

I'm currently in my 2nd year at uni
Thankfully my parents cover my rent, but my burasey is only £150 a month.
I manage to live off that and i live fairly well, so you should have tonnes on £300 a month!
I buy loads of the cheapest tins and make large meals like chilli or soup that i can freeze or just microwave and eat until i run out. As long as can stand tesco's cheapest (not that you have to on £300) you'll be fine!0
