Car Parking Fines

Options
My wife was given a fixed penalty fine in a local council run car park. She thought she had paid £1. 20p for 2hours but the machine either did not record the 20p or rejected that coin without her noticing. She did not notice, at the time, the recorded amount which was £1 and the machine allocated the time of 1hr ( the proper cost of which should be 60p ) She has appealed to no avail. Has anyone any advice or strategy for fighting the fine ?

I don't think you have much chance of winning this. The ticket would have shown the departure time from the car park on, so legally, you should have checked it and left before this.

Your problem is proving your side of the story. The Council aren't going to believe your rejected 20p story, and neither will a court if it gets that far. They will just say you should have checked your ticket.

I'd put it down to experience and pay the fine. You've got to look at it this way, at least it didn't come with penalty points!
  • I received a letter of failure to pay a fixed penalty notice in a cornish council car park, 3 months after date of issue. This was the first I knew about it. I appealed saying I categorically had not recieved a notice and disputed the time recorded when apparently my ticket had expired. The vehicle details were wrong including the RFL date but the registration was my vehicle. I also had a witness but I still had to pay! Has anyone else had similar experience?

My daughter forgot to put her parking disk in the car last week, she remembered and rushed back, she had been gone for 11 mins and you get 2 hours free parking, the parking attendant watched her park and pounced as soon as she left.

She appealed to no avail, it's really bad where we live the parking attendants go round in pairs and hide behind trees, the local paper has lots of letters every week.

If the details were wrong then the ticket/charge is invalid.Fight it!

I have only ever paid one parking ticket.

There are lots of ways of avoiding paying penalty tickets, some of which are more kosher than others. Can't say more as it's part of my IP.
