In the right period property I love sash windows, and wouldn't be put off by them, I have a dislike for UPVC double glazing, this current house when we had the windows done we had them imported from Finland, sod double glazing quadruple glazing is where it is at.
  • I'd rather have upvc than single glazed sash windows. Granted sash looks better in older houses but I probably wouldn't buy an older house. I saw one I loved but the single glazing was just too cold

We would not even look at upvc windows, it has to be real wooden double glazed windows. They do need painting and it costs a bit to get the painters in but to us it's worth it.

Quadruple!!!! <green with envy smilie>. I didn't even know there was such a thing.

Goodness knows, any time I google around looking for triple-glazed windows (as I would have thought they should be easy to get by now) I draw a blank.

we bought a house with upvc sash. At more than a grand apiece for fairly small units, tbh they are not as good (insulation&noise-wise) as those in our old house (decent uPVC non sash), so given a choice, i would not choose sash.

I understand that wooden windows may last a long time if maintained regularly, but currently our time/££ is very valuable so would not consider wooden windows.
