I paid off our mortgage this morning! :j
We don't have any loans or outstanding credit card balances so are completely debt free! :T

Hoping to move house in the summer, purchase and sale all agreed, so it will be great to own our new home without a mortgage.

There wasn't a specific date i just got unlucky and got very ill then got very lucky as I had a insurance policy.
    b. Mortgage Debt at its highest
    £165,000
    c. Mortgage-Free Date
    05/07/2016
    d. Your one pearl of wisdom.
6 years ago I took out a life/critical illness insurance with the hope that i would never have to use it but the security for me that if something happened my wife and kids would be looked after. £80 a month it cost me. Certainly would have preferred not to have gone through all of this just to get my mortgage paid off.
Luckily my insurance company (AVIVA) mentioned in their final settlement letter that if paying off a mortgage with critical illness insurance money a lot of mortgage companies waiver the early repayment fees. That saved me over £6.5k.
    e. The MSE Mortgage guides and others that helped you

    c. Mortgage-Free Date
1st August 2016. All lined up ready to go.

    d. Your one pearl of wisdom.
Every little helps. Might seem tiny in comparison to the number but it snowballs and you have to start somewhere, but don't forget its a journey.. enjoy it.

Always found the overpayment calculator motivating.
Equally each of the groups offer different ways of saving / making money so make use of all those sources, from shopping, utilities, ebay'ing, surveys etc.
