Upstands

Hi
I'm having new windows put in soon and need a new kitchen. I have two kitchen windows and they sit level with the work surface / skink and upstands were mentioned. Do they need to be in place before new windows are fitted ? ( We had planned to have the new windows fitted first and then the kitchen done but we haven't started to plan the kitchen yet ( and it will be a while to get some funds after paying for the windows )
Thanks in advance

It's definitely better that the windows go in first. There is much more flexibility in adjusting the new upstands than there is in adjusting the height of a window!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thanks for the reply !
Any ideas on how much two upstands is likely to cost ?
thanks so much0 -
I agree any upstands would be after the windows, but maybe they were thinking you might want the window smaller (in length) so you could create a window sill above the worktop which would then require an upstand?0

so I could have the upstands done after the windows are installed ? I would prefer to do this but I couldn't see how it would work. If the bottom of the window frame is at the same height as the sink how can an upstand be created that doesnt block part of the lower window - I'm scratching my head here, please could someone explain this I just cant visulise it ?

The idea would be that the window frame would finish higher than the sink, thereby creating the possibility of the upstand.
For example if the current window was 1000mm high, you could replace it with a window 800mm high but put it in flush to the top of the opening. This would leave a 200mm gap at the bottom which could be bricked up and then a window sill on top. then between the sill and the sink you could have a 200mm upstand.!
Hope that makes sense!0 -
That does make sense thank you ! BUT they had already measured for the windows - would they just knock some of the measurement or would they need to re-measure ?0

Up to you, If it is something you want then talk to them and take it from there. They probably wouldnt need to re-measure but just ask how much you want to raise the bottom by.0
