I live a few hundred yards to the West of a sewage works and can smell it maybe half a dozen times a year. Our prevailing wind across England/Wales is from the West so most of the time it blows the smell in the opposite direction. I wouldn't want to live the same distance to the East.

If you're half a mile to the West it should be fine, if to the East tread more carefully. Either way, as mentioned above it wouldn't do any harm to ask a few neighbours.
  • So why are the owners wanting to sell after only 2 years? The plant near us, a few miles away though, has big lorries turning up and leaving quite regularly during the day. Don't forget about things like that.

Is there anywhere urban/semi urban in the UK where big lorries cannot be regularly found within half a mile?

We have visited the property twice and there are no problems - we have also driven through the area three times and again, not noticed anything but obviously this has all been within the last month.

    They smell more in summer.
