Thursday 27th March - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending:money:

    Hi All

Well I thought I would call Santander today and ask if I can go to interest only or reduced payments while I wait for my house sale to go through as I am not paying a total of £1320 in rent and mortgage per month and they said - they can't help me until I am in financial difficulty - I said I am in financial difficulty, to which he replied if you can make your next mortgage payment (which I can just about) then your not in financial difficulty - grrrrrr I am trying to avoid financial difficulty - useless company - will be changing my bank as soon at the house sale has gone through.

House sale - is progressing slowly - not helped y estate agent, so offer was accepted on the 17th the buyer took financial advice yesterday and has made an appointment to apply for a mortgage - I was told they were cash buyers initially, and who puts an offer in on a house without knowing they could afford it, then last Saturday the estate agent told a couple not to view the house as it was under offer grrrr again they have had a row about that.

My tenants have moved out - few jobs to do in the house - they had a leaky radiator that they had not told me about, they also changed the gas and electric meters for pay as you go ones without asking argh

Payday Monday - really poor until then so I will be living off what I can find in the house until Monday.

Cycled to work, put uniform in the wash for 2nd job tonight, 4 shifts in the restaurant this week - but got Mothers Day off hooray!

    Have a nice day all

  • G'day all!!

Thanks for the starter and hope you're feeling much better today Ziggy!!

Not much from me today, but here goes:

:) Check banks and sweep remaining pennies into savings in preparation for payday tomorrow!! Yay!

:) Budget for next month - on holiday for 2 weeks so adjustments to groceries and fuel accordingly...

:) Claim 2 hours overtime from working late last night

:) Washing in economy cycle and hang up to dry

    :) Exercise DVD at home

:) Heating is now totally off at the boiler... Will see if OH notices...

:) Submit gas & electric meter readings

:) Do a few jobs around the house as instructed by OH - hard this week as we don't see each other when I'm working this pattern so it's notes, lists and texts to communicate!!

:) Take something for dinner to work to save buying fast food out

:) Try and squeeze another couple of hours OT out tonight!

Right, think that's about it from me... Have a great day everyone!

    Afternoon all,
    Today's small things:
*Saved energy by sharing bath water & having all downstairs heating off (upstairs is on minimum).
*Tonight's food = 'Use it up night'.
*My monthly Big Budget Day: Checked all March transactions went through correctly especially car insurance payment which they bodged & Autoglass who took a payment & had to refund it because they didn't turn up to do the work. All OK now. Set April's budget. With vet bills, paying car insurance as one annual payment, bill for gasman to do some work in the bathroom pre-refit, it's going to be a tight month. We also have a weekend away at the end of this month, though luckily had already put that money aside. Managed to budget for paying all our Savings Piggies as well as the WTSHTF fund, but there doesn't need to be a single £ spent this month that hasn't already been accounted for. Am prepared to be NAILS over this!!
*Did a few Onepolls as will soon be over £30 & on the last leg before cash-in time.
*Read energy meters & uploaded onto Co-op Energy website.
*Tended veggie seedlings which all need some warmer weather. Sunshine on & off today but very cold.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
*Do meal plans. I usually just do a week at a time but as we need a careful month & have lots in the freezer, I'm going to plan for the whole month.
    *Start shopping list.
*Knit a bit more of the pair of socks I'm making for the present box.
*Free fitness as did an aerobics DVD........weigh-day hoving into view again. Only 2lbs left of Winter podge to get back off now, then I can throw myself into losing my last stone & a half.
*Big filing session for household paperwork.
*Adjust my monthly budget formula to take account of small rises in council tax & a couple of other things.
OK, that's it. Off to put the kettle on & find something alluring to eat (for 50 calories, so in my dreams!!), then must get on with meal planning.
    Cheers,
    f x

    Eighth Anniversary Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi all,

A late one from me today. Finally finished the Mother's Day cross stitch and turned it into a cushion. I already had all the materials so it was free! And I found the present my MIL wanted for her birthday for considerably less than RRP. We're visiting both sets of parents this weekend so won't have to buy any meals. Very MSE! Although of course we have to pay for train tickets and the cat sitter. Ups and downs, eh?

Had a few freebies arrive which are going to fill the wash bags I'm making for family birthday gifts next month, and had leftovers for dinner. All told, a good DFW day!
