direct debit indemnity claim - not sure what to do!

Firstly, im sorry if I've posted this in the wrong thread... I'm new to this forum!

Basically, I have been, or thought I had been paying my virgin media acc by dd.

This morning, all my services have been cut and an indemnity claim is showing up on my account for the last 6 months worth of bills.

Around mid October, our services were disabled when people moved into the flat upstairs, I called and had them reset them up. It was an error owing to the address being very similar.

Turns out, since this point though my online account has been showing as up to date with virgin media and that the direct debit was still set up and running that none of the payments have left my account.

ehikst I don't dispute owing the money, I don't have that kind of cash upfront in one lump and it was entirely an error on their part with no notification that I hadn't been paying.

Just wondered if anyone had been through a similar situation and if they had any advice on organising a reasonable payment plan, avoiding defaults on my account and getting switched back on!!

Thanks in advance, =)

Doesn't look good for you. From what you say, you owe Virgin 6 months of subscription charges and until you pay these, they are not likely to reconnect you. You need to talk to them urgently to agree a payment plan and confirm that the outstanding debt will not show up on your credit file.

It seems odd that you appear to have checked your Virgin account but not your bank account. Are you certain the money was not debited from your bank account? If so, why did you not notice that it didn't leave your account?
  • I get paid the same each month and have a running spreadsheet for all dds and standing orders. The only dd I ha e that varies is virgin so I check the amount, tally, and pull the remainder from my account for the month in cash.
I don't pay by card for anything so I always know exactly how much I have to work with for the month.

Slightly archaic but has worked for me so far for the last 2 years, asides from now!

I do t have an issue with paying the money, of course, I owe it!!

having spent the last hr on the phone to hmm. Turns out the only way I can pay is over 3 months and in that period I have no services and an arrangement to pay will go on my credit score.

Best virgin media say they can do. Seem reasonable to you?

    Thanks again for your reply.

    ..............

soo if the Virgin DD was not being taken how come you didn't see the extra amount in your bank balance when you went to remove the cash balance every month?
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

No, I can't say I have been in that situation.

We have Virgin broadband, and payment for that is by CPA on a credit card.

A few months back their system went haywire and for some reason they failed to collect payment at the due date, but were very quick to contact me (by email and letter iirc) that payment was overdue.

They invite you to view the account online, which confusingly said everything was fine (as by then they had taken the money from my credit card)

So I called them, and they admitted it was their error and they had now collected the money and everything was fine.

Next month, same thing happened again ... and I did the same things again with the same outcome.

... and again the third month. Fortunately, they then fixed their system so it didn't happen again :)

I think, however, what this demonstrates is that they are very quick to chase non-payers. So I am surprised by your version of events.
  • Embarrassingly, the money was being taken out of someone elses account on top of their bill. And it only flagged when that poor person realised 6 months down the line they had been paying double and submitted an indemnity form. I don't think the team at v media I spoke with had been in this situation before either!

R.e. Not noticing, its a matter of between 40 and 50 quid. Whilst obviously the mistake is half to do with my books not balancing and my negligence I honestly think I have explained enough about how I manage my finances and don't think delving deeper into how I manage them is going to help with my comms with virgin. though I am grateful you have taken the time to respond to me.

I was just curious to know if anyone had been in a similar situation and what the process was
