What to expect from insurance after flooding

Hello. Just after some advice. After the heavy rain my home suffered some flooding (kitchen, dining room and garage). The flooded happened last Monday and I call my insurance company on Tuesday. A 'drying out' company are coming tomorrow and a loss assessor is coming next week. I have never claimed on my home insurance before and was wondering how long these things take (from claiming to things getting replaced) and what will happen when the loss assessor comes (will he or she make a list of all the damage and items that are broken). I know my flooding was not as bad as a lot of people have experienced but felt other people may be in the same position and wondering what happens next. Any comments appreciated.
