Old supplier contacted me first

A few weeks ago I switched my electric supply from Npower to EDF. I read that the next step invloves waiting for the new supplier to contact me and that I need not deal with npower again until giving the final reading at changeover. Is this the case because I got a letter from npower today? It is a 'we are sorrying you are leaving' and ' can we change your mind' letter but also asks that I call them so that they can finalise my account if I still want to move. Now should EDF have not wrote to me first and given me the go ahead to talk to npower? I don't want to call npower because I would unable to resist myself from giving them a gobfull about how expensive they are in Yorkshire(their home region) compared to their tariffs elsewhere.
So would I be ok waiting for EDF to write to me before making my next move?

nPower want you to call them to convince you to switch back to them. They don't need the final meter readings from you as they come from the new supplier.

Simply check your documents to see when the transfer is due to go through and ensure you give EDF a meter reading on the correct date so it all goes through smoothly.

Having been an npower customer i can guess that you will in the next few weeks have a visit from a meter reader, probably after you have given your final reading to edf.(so they can dispute it)
They will then take an age to get your final bill sorted (especially if they owe you money). Then because your normal quaterly bill is due, it will automatically be sent with an estimated bill for some date after you switched. because you cancelled your direct debits they will send you a final reminder for this bill. Then after phoning them to explain their mistake and of course being reassured by a customer service advisor thats its ok they will send you a pay now or we will send the baliffs round letter.
After phoning again and being reassured again ... you will then receive a letter from a credit recovery service who will
start adding fee's to a bill you dont owe.
finally after several hastily typed letters to the relevant people begging them to send you your final biil (which was due god knows how long ago) they will acknowledge that they owe you money and that they will send you a cheque and call off the heavies.
not that i had a bad experience or anything !

I think there has been a change wigth how change readings are obtained.
Now are got from old supplier as an estimate - a lilttle bit of logic as they have your usage histoty.

If you need to give a reading though, you shouldn't have to speak to anyone. Is ther an automatic service you can use, or if your signed up online that way.

Or wait and give it to EDF and they can pass it back if the estimate is way off.

Well I got my letter from EDF today informing me that I will be switched on the 8th of July and to give them a reading within 7 days after this date. So as suspected I will not have to contact Npower to be assaulted by their spin about why I should stay with them despite being overcharged megabucks.
They won't owe me any money either as I pay by quarterly billing and am prepared to pay extra to avoid the inconvenience of direct debit( I don't trust any energy companies in this regard).
