Mum and full time student

I hoping that someone could help clear something up for me.

I have applied to return to full time education to train as a hairdresser but since I have 2 children who would need to be looked after by their nursery I cant seem to find any details on what help I may be able to get or not.

If I was a full time student not working where/who can help with childcare costs, I dont think tax credits would apply here as I wouldnt be working and the course I am looking at is an NVQ 2 so I wouldnt be applying for student loans but may be able to get a college bursary.

Hope someone can help.

Your best place to ask, certainly your first port of call, should be the college where you're planning to do the course.

You won't be the first person who will have asked about this and they should have some knowledge and information.

A friend of my daughters started college part time last september, she was able to get a bursary to cover child care fees, but because she didn't apply until december for it all immediate funding had run out and has only in the last month been able to start recieving it. So apply early to secure yours to start when you start your course.
  • Hi Shiningfaery,

I work for a college. Most colleges have nurseries and should offer to care for your children while you're in college.

If they are full, or you want to keep your children in a nursery they know and are comfortable with, they should then offer a bursary so you can find your own nursery place.

    Good luck with the course.
I love a bargain. Now mortgage and debt free. hurray!!:smileyhea
