my dad needs it to claim a pension and doesnt have a p60.
Why does he need a P60 to claim his pension?
If he needs to contact HMRC http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kb5/hmrc/contactus/view.page?record=hpkspulskxM0 -
ring or write to HMRC and ask ? He'd need to give his NI number

its to claim a private pension.
Has the pension provider asked to see P60? If so, why?0 -

I found this dated 2012 - will your father's NI number not enable your father's pension provider to deal with HMRC?
Otherwise, is your father still employed? Does he have a tax reference on his pay slip?0 -
no hes not employed at the moment. like i said inland revenue told us they dont exist. i also contacted a friends wife who works for them who also said they no longer exist. so he sent the form off without it. annoyingly while tidying today i found my p60 from last year and it clearly has a tax district number stated on it. so either the info i was given is wrong or its a very recent change.I found this dated 2012 - will your father's NI number not enable your father's pension provider to deal with HMRC?

that is about addresses of offices not the tax district number.
http://news.lanop.co.uk/?p=94
"Each year HMRC issues various types of forms and letters to PAYE employee customers. These forms and letters showed different tax office names and addresses. Customers used these addresses when writing to HMRC about their tax affairs.
HMRC now have a national computer system for PAYE which allows HMRC to manage work nationally, meaning customer records can be worked by staff in any location. Using different tax office names and addresses doesn’t support this new flexibility and can lead to delays in post handling."
This has replaced individual tax office names and addresses with three PO Box addresses.
I suspect that this is what applies to your father's affairs?0
