Faulty tv sent back to retailer, they claim empty box and getting bothered by courier

I bought a refurb tv from Ebay which did not power on, I returned it and had a courier collect it all arranged by company, the courier did say when it was picked up it was light and looked empty but the reason for this was the box was about 4 times the size of the tv and overrated for its weight ie. it was said to be 15kg when it was only a third of that if that at most.

Got a knock on the door from local courier who said the box was empty and I gave it to him empty since it weight nothing and I would get contacted by the courier security team, the seller etc.

One I dont think the courier can bother me like this and since it was arranged by the seller isnt the responsibilty on them to prove it was empty not me prove it was?

No, the courier was in the right, he was expecting a package weighing 15kg and got one weighing as he says almost nothing.

He pulled you on this before he even looked in the box and because it was empty they will believe him and send it to the fraud team, they will treat it like you are trying to make a false claim.

What was the make and model of the TV? The weight will be in the spec, or the ebay item number will do.

Almost nothing can be anything though, I mean I could lift it with one hand though would be awkward.

All the courier said was that it felt light and he couldnt see the item in the box he never weighed it as such just gave me a pre written receipt with the weight on.

Not sure the weight offhand as when I got a refund I deleted the confirmation details so would have to find it again.

The other thing is it was paid for and under a relatives name all they have is my address.

It's not the seller responsibility to prove it wasn't in the box it's yours as the sender to prove it was and ensure it gets to the recipient. If you have already been refunded you would usually have to repay the refund and make a claim against the courier.

Do you mean against the retailer? OP says courier was arranged by the company, which means he has no contract with them.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

But to me the it looks like the courier has caught onto the fact the sender has tried to send back an empty box, this may very well be classed as fraud because he has now had a refund, a typical Ebay scam tbh, of course I'm not saying the op did this, just what it looks like.

Charge backs are notorious on Ebay by unscrupulous buyers, it is why I dont sell on there anymore.

The company itself never contacted me, they refunded me and it was the courier itself who told me the box was empty, at that point I contacted the seller who said that they refunded despite it being an empty box.

I did originally think to put it in a smaller box closer to the size of the tv but assumed that way I would be told I did not post back in original packaging.

I do feel like telling the courier or the company that if I wanted to scam I would not do it for a refurb tv that cost under a hundred quid!
